NEW DELHI: US President Joe Biden faces a significant challenge ahead of the 2024 elections as his son, Hunter Biden, has been found guilty in a drug and gun abuse case. This marks the first instance in history where a court in the United States has convicted a sitting President’s child.

Hunter Biden, a Yale-trained lawyer and artist, was convicted on three charges related to purchasing a handgun in 2018 while he was addicted to crack cocaine. He was accused of providing false information about his drug use when obtaining a gun license, a violation of US firearm laws. Despite his high-profile status and the severity of the charges, experts suggest he is unlikely to serve jail time as a first-time offender. Instead, he may receive probation and community service.

President Biden has publicly acknowledged his respect for the judicial process and expressed empathy as a father dealing with his son’s addiction issues. He mentioned Hunter’s struggle with drug addiction and the efforts made to overcome it, including a year-long treatment program.

During the trial, Hunter’s ex-girlfriend, Haley, testified about finding a gun in his car and witnessing his drug use, which also affected her. However, she stopped using drugs in 2018. Hunter admitted to his addiction and the challenges he faced following his brother’s death.

The sentencing for Hunter Biden is pending, with potential implications for his father’s political standing leading up to the elections.

As per media sources, Hunter’s ex-girlfriend Haley testified in court. She mentioned finding a gun in Hunter’s car, which scared her. She also mentioned & witnessed Hunter using drugs multiple times, and his habits led her to get addicted to drugs as well.
