NEW DELHI: West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose announced on Tuesday the establishment of a mobile control room at Raj Bhavan, allowing citizens to share their views with the Governor’s office regarding the ongoing agitation over the alleged rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital.
Terming the incident as the “most shameful moment” for society, Governor Bose asserted that West Bengal is in a “state of flux” and claimed that the people have “lost faith in the present government.”

The tragedy in question occurred on August 9, when a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty at the Kolkata hospital. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, leading to a ceasework agitation by junior doctors at state-run hospitals across West Bengal.
As the protest entered its 12th day on Tuesday, healthcare services across the state remained severely disrupted. The agitating doctors are demanding justice for the victim and calling for stronger security measures at their workplaces.

In response to the incident, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the probe from Kolkata Police, following an order by the Calcutta High Court last week. A civic volunteer has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the crime.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s House, it was revealed that the Governor personally made the first call from the mobile control room to the father of the deceased doctor, offering his condolences and assuring the family of his support.

Governor Bose is expected to submit a report on the incident to Union Home Minister Amit Shah later on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of India has taken suo moto cognisance of the case. The bench, comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Misra, questioned the handling of the case by Kolkata Police and RG Kar Hospital authorities. The CBI has been directed to submit a progress report on the investigation by Thursday.
