North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called for increased military drills to simulate "real war" while monitoring missile tests that were successful in destroying an enemy airport.
State media showed pictures of Kim's young daughter present during the display.
The tests involved six short-range ballistic missile launch vehicles that were lined up along a coastal forested area.
The launches come just before the United States and South Korea are set to begin joint military exercises known as Freedom Shield, which Pyongyang has criticised as rehearsals for invasion.
Experts expect more provocative tests from North Korea in response to the military drills and upcoming diplomatic meetings between South Korea, Japan, and the US.
Pyongyang has escalated its weapons development since diplomatic efforts to contain its nuclear and missile programs collapsed in 2019.
