RBI has fixed the nominal value of the bond at Rs 5,611 per gram.

SGBs are a form of government bonds, denominated in multiples of grams of gold, that offer an interest rate of 2.5% per annum on the initial investment.

They have a lock-in period of eight years, with an exit option available in the fifth year.

Investors can get a discount of Rs 50 per gram if they apply online and make digital payments.

SGBs are considered to be the best way to invest in gold as they offer an additional 2.5% per annum interest and no capital gains tax.

They are highly liquid and easily traded on the exchanges, with a sovereign guarantee and no danger of default.

The minimum investment in SGBs is one gram, while the maximum limit of subscription for individuals per fiscal year is 4 kg.
