Sania Mirza announces retirement from professional tennis

Sania Mirza to retire from professional tennis after WTA 1000 event in Dubai

Mirza will be playing in women’s doubles alongside Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilin at the Australian Open in January.

The former doubles world No. 1 champion spoke about her retirement in an interview.

The 36-year-old said this is her final appearance at a Grand Slam event.

She has been dealing with a lingering calf injury.

Because of the elbow injury in August she was ruled out of the US Open.

“I really don’t have the capacity in my mind to emotionally push that much anymore,” said Mirza.

“I turned pro in 2003...Priorities change, and now my priority is not to push my body to the limit every single day," she said to WTA.
