Karnataka private sector reservation bill put on hold amidst backlash
After facing massive resentment over a proposed law reserving a large chunk of private sector jobs for locals in Karnataka, the state Congress government has rolled back its decision.
CM Siddaramaiah clarified that a final call is yet to be taken and the decision will be conveyed after the next cabinet meeting.
The state cabinet on 15th July approved ‘The Karnataka State Employment of Local Candidates in the Industries, Factories and Other Establishments Bill, 2024’.
The bill mandates the reservation of 50% of local candidates in management categories, and 70% in non-management categories, along with penalties ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000 upon non-compliance.
