Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has undergone a successful back surgery in Christchurch, New Zealand, after battling fitness issues since August last year.
The surgery was performed by an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in adult spinal conditions.
Bumrah is expected to take around six months before returning to competitive cricket.
Consequently, he will miss the upcoming Asia Cup, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India is optimistic about his fitness in time for the ODI World Cup in October-November.
Bumrah has missed several big tournaments, including the T20 World Cup and Border-Gavaskar Trophy, due to his recurring back problem.
