Fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi lost legal battle to take extradition fight to UK supreme court  in the $2 billion PNB scam case.

London high court bench  had earlier rejected his plea  against extradition to India.

Addedly, the court had also imposed costs of more than £150,000 ( ₹1.53 crore) as fine.

The High Court rejected Modi’s appeal to certify a “point of law of general public importance".

In November, Modi had appealed risk of suicide on mental health grounds if he was shifted to India for extradition which was refused.

He was behind bars at Wandsworth Prison in London but the court ordered him to be shifted to Arthur Road jail in Mumbai.

In Janurary 2018, Nirav Modi was found guilty of defrauding India’s second largest bank, Punjab National Bank of around $2 billion using credit guarantees for his diamonds business.

He fled India in 2018 and was arrested in 2019 in London.
