Dr Shree K. Nayar Columbia University professor awarded Okawa Prize for his ground-breaking work on computer vision and computational imaging

Nayar is responsible for our mobile phone’s camera imaging becoming better with time.

According to The Week’s report, “It is estimated that more than one billion smartphone users worldwide are using his technology on a daily basis.”

Nayar hails from Thiruvananthapuram, but lives and teaches in New York.

He invented innovative imaging techniques and their widespread use in digital photography and computer vision.

“Nayar is currently the T. C. Chang Professor of Computer Science at the university and heads the Columbia Vision Laboratory (CAVE), which develops computational imaging and computer vision systems,” said the report.
