CJI Chandrachud bats for climate compatible dress code for lawyer

On Friday Chief Justice of India, Justice DY Chandrachud said women in the legal profession should not have to face moral policing because of the clothes they wear.

Justice Chandrachud said since summers have become hotter due to climate change, hence its important to rethink dress codes for lawyers.

"The strictness of attire shouldn't lead to moral policing of women lawyers," he added.

He asserted that the legal profession should shed away its colonial underpinnings.

He was speaking as the chief guest on the Constitution Day celebrations organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association on 25th November.

He reminded the members of the legal profession that the constitution is forever evolving to meet new social realities of the time.

He emphasised on the fact that the bar and the bench were equal stakeholders in the process of the court.
