Amazon to lay off over 18000 employees due to unforeseen circumstances

Amazon CEO Andy Jassey sent out a heartfelt tweet for the exiting employees.

“The company's leadership was deeply aware that these role eliminations are difficult for people, and we don't take these decisions lightly,” he said.

In November last year the company laid off 10,000 employees.

Amazon in a statement said, they will support the laid off employees in getting new jobs.

During the pandemic the retail giant hired nearly double as demands rose.

The company statement cited ‘uncertain economy’ as the reason for the layoffs.

Some of these layoffs would be in Europe, Jassey said.

Exiting employees will be informed from January 18.
