2001 parliament attack anniversary; see pics of PM Modi, Sonia Gandhi, Union Ministers paying tributes

In 2001 on this day, two Pakistan-based terrorist groups, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), carried out a devastating attack on the Indian Parliament.

On Tuesday, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to those who died in the attack.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, and parliamentarians from across the political spectrum had gathered at India Gate.

Union Minister and Rajya Sabha leader Piyush Goyal, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, were seen chatting with Gandhi.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, and Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also paid floral tributes.

The attack to the Parliament House was thwarted by members of the Parliament Security Service, the CRPF, and the Delhi Police.

Five Delhi police officers, a woman Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper, two Parliament watch and ward workers, a journalist, and a gardener were among those killed in the attack.

All five terrorists were killed in the gunfire.
