NEW DELHI: Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has responded to the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) accusations of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led governments causing flood-like situations in Delhi.
Sarma advised the AAP government to focus on resolving the issue instead of blaming other states. He mentioned that Assam also faces floods due to water from China and Bhutan, but his government has implemented a scientific response rather than blaming those governments.
Sarma emphasised that water does not know any geography and that Assam also receives water from Arunachal Pradesh, China, and Bhutan. He stated that blaming other state governments would not solve the problem and urged the AAP to take responsibility and find a solution to the flood-like situation in Delhi.

“I am seeing various statements that the water is coming from Haryana and UP. Water doesn’t know any geography. We also receive water from Arunachal Pradesh, China and Bhutan, but we do not criticise them as we believe that this is a natural phenomenon and we have to set a scientific response for it,” the Assam CM said.
“Blaming other state governments is not going to solve the problem, it is your problem and you have to resolve it yourself,” he added.
The AAP had accused the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in Haryana of conspiring to cause a flood crisis in Delhi by releasing water from the Hathnikund Barrage.

Delhi ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj questioned the Haryana government regarding the release of water to other states, particularly the eastern canal that goes to Uttar Pradesh.
Furthermore, Sarma took a jibe at Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal by reminding him of his past invitation to Delhi and expressing his readiness to visit Kejriwal’s house. He humorously mentioned that, despite the invitation being extended six months ago, he is still waiting for it.
“I am still waiting for the invitation. It’s been six months. If the invitation comes today, I am ready to visit his house,” Sarma said.

The exchange of words between Kejriwal and Sarma dates back to the pandemic, when the then Delhi Deputy CM, Manish Sisodia, linked Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, to a PPE kit row.
This led to a dispute over job claims, and Kejriwal extended an invitation to Sarma to tour Delhi’s schools and hospitals. In response, Sarma accepted the invitation but asserted that he would visit the places of his choosing rather than those selected by Kejriwal.
