Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee’s sister-in-law Maneka Gambhir was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at its Kolkata office after midnight (12.30 am) last night. Upon reaching the ED office as per the time mentioned in the summoning, she found the main entrance locked.
As per sources, the ED is likely to send another summon with the correct timing soon. The summon is regarding the coal smuggling scam that has sent shockwaves across the state.
The New Indian got access to a photograph of Gambhir standing outside the office of ED at CGO complex, Kolkata.
Earlier, Gambhir had filed a petition against a summon order of the ED asking her to be present at its Delhi office. Her demand was upheld by the court.
On Saturday night, Gambhir, who was intending to travel to Bangkok, was stopped just when she was about to board the flight by the immigration authorities. After this, she was handed over to the ED, who gave her the notice of summon asking her to be present at Kolkata office.
A Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against her by the central investigative agency.
Earlier, on September 2, Abhishek Banerjee was also summoned by the ED in the coal smuggling scam where he was questioned for close to seven hours.
This is a developing story.
