NEW DELHI: Days after it took over the probe, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday said it had arrested four accused in connection with the brutal killing of eight people in West Bengal’s Birbhum.
The agency has arrested four accused from Mumbai, Maharashtra in connection with the massacre in Rampurhat area of Birbhum district in West Bengal, CBI Spokesperson RC Joshi said in a statement.
The arrested accused have been identified as Shri Bappa SK aka Sal Mohamad, Sabu SK aka Sadril SK, Taj Mohammad aka Chand and Serajul SK aka Poltu, Joshi said, adding that the accused involved in Bogtui carnage had been absconding after the incident.
“The CBI planned a meticulous operation, traced their hideout in Mumbai using technical and human intelligence and arrested four accused,” he added.
They were produced before a court on Thursday and were granted transit remand till April 10.
The CBI had registered a case on March 25 this year against 22 accused on the Calcutta High Court order and taken over the investigation.
The case was earlier registered at Rampurhat police station.
