NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in collaboration with the State Government of Goa, will host the first World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) from November 20-24, 2024. Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the event by addressing the curtain raiser summit today, July 13, in New Delhi.
Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the Media & Entertainment (M&E) industry’s role in job creation. He noted that the sector currently employs around 25 lakh individuals and highlighted plans to increase employment opportunities in the coming year.
The summit will coincide with the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and focus on leveraging technological advancements to boost employment across the M&E sector. Minister Vaishnaw positioned WAVES as a significant platform for job creation and aligning with global M&E trends.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed enthusiasm for hosting WAVES, building on Goa’s successful legacy of organizing IFFI for two decades. He committed to ensuring the summit’s success and welcomed the Union Government’s initiative.
The global M&E industry, including sectors like Films, TV, Broadcast, Print, and Digital Media, reached a revenue of USD 2.32 trillion in 2022. India’s M&E market, currently valued at USD 26.2 billion, aims to expand its global market share through WAVES by attracting international trade and investment.
