VP Naidu Meets New UAE Prez Sheikh Mohamed

NEW DELHI: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu met newly elected UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

Vice President Naidu expressed his condolences to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the royal family and the entire leadership of the UAE on the demise of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed, former President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi.

Vice-President Naidu also congratulated Sheikh Mohamed on being elected as the third President of the UAE and said that under “his care and leadership, the two countries will continue to take forward their historic and comprehensive strategic relationship in new and diverse areas”, the Ministry of External Affairs stated.

Vice President Naidu was accompanied by Sunjay Sudhir, Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Secretary to the Vice President, Joint Secretary (Gulf) and other senior government officials of India.

The Vice President also conveyed the condolences of President Shri Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and reiterated that “India and its people stand by the UAE at this difficult time”.

“Vice President Venkaiah Naidu fondly recalled that under the leadership of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, India-UAE ties prospered greatly to the mutual benefit of the people of the two countries and also that Sheikh Khalifa took exceptional care of the large Indian community in UAE, who held him in the high esteem.

On Saturday, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar visited the UAE Embassy in New Delhi and conveyed condolences.

“Signed the condolence book at the Embassy of United Arab Emirates, extending our deepest condolences on the passing away of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, late President of the UAE,” Dr Jaishankar said in a tweet.

India observed a full- day of national mourning on Saturday to offer condolences on the demise of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, former President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi.
