Violent assault at SGTB Khalsa College: Student lodges FIR, seeks protection

NEW DELHI – A violent assault took place on the campus of SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi, on Saturday, September 21, 2024. The victim, Pavit Singh Gujral, a second-year student, has lodged an FIR with the Maurice Nagar Police Station, detailing a brutal attack allegedly led by a fellow student, Sajan Tomar, and his accomplices.

 

The incident occurred around 1:57 PM during the ongoing nomination process at the college. According to the FIR, Gujral was attacked by Tomar’s group, who forcibly removed his turban, pulled his hair, and physically assaulted him. Gujral also mentioned that his T-shirt was torn during the altercation, and he faced verbal abuse and threats from the attackers. The assault, as per Gujral, not only caused physical harm but also hurt his religious sentiments.

 

 

A video of the incident has been handed over to the police by the victim as evidence. Gujral, who currently resides at Birla Mill Complex, Shakti Nagar, Delhi, expressed concerns about his safety and has requested protection, fearing further threats to his life.

 

The Maurice Nagar police promptly registered an FIR on September 22, 2024, under sections 299 (culpable homicide), 115(2) (abetment of offence), 351(2) (assault), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The case is being investigated by Inspector Saleem, who has confirmed that further legal proceedings are underway.

 

 

Inspector Saleem stated, “We are taking this case very seriously and have already started the investigation. The video evidence provided by the victim is crucial, and we are examining it thoroughly.”

 

The college administration has also responded to the incident. Principal Gurmohinder Singh said, “We are deeply disturbed by this incident and are cooperating fully with the police investigation. The safety and well-being of our students are our top priority.”

 

Student groups on campus have expressed their outrage and solidarity with Gujral. A representative from the student union commented, “This kind of violence is unacceptable. We demand strict action against the perpetrators and better security measures on campus.”

 

As the investigation continues, Gujral remains under police protection, and the college community is calling for justice and increased safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
