To represent India at the world’s greatest football event, FIFA World Cup 2022, vice president, Jagdeep Dhankhar left for Doha for the inauguration on November 20, Sunday.
On November 19, Saturday, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement about India and Qatar relations. It said that the two countries enjoy close and friendly relations with multifaceted partnerships extending to areas of trade, security, defence, health, and education, among others. Bilateral trade in the last financial year between India and Qatar crossed 15 Billion US dollars. Both the countries will also celebrate 50 years of the establishment of full diplomatic relations next year.
The statement also said that the Vice President will also interact with the members of the Indian community.
There are 8,40,000 Indians in Qatar and people-to-people ties form an important element of the bilateral relationships, said the Ministry in a statement.
On October 29, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Amir Qatar, and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and conveyed his best wishes for the successful conduct of the FIFA World Cup 2022.
Football is by far the world’s most popular sport, both in terms of viewership and participation.The numbers are staggering, with an estimated 3.5-4 billion fans worldwide.
The opening ceremony will be held at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor at 7.30 pm India time. The FIFA World Cup will begin with the Group A opening match between hosts Qatar and Ecuador which will start at 9.30 PM Indian time. A total of 32 top countries from five regions will be in action for the championship title.
The World Cup will have 64 matches and will be held across eight stadiums in Qatar.
FIFA 2022 will kick off with South Korean boy band BTS’s Jungkook performing ‘Dreamers’ while Black Eyed Peas, Robbie Williams and Nora Fatehi would be among the others performing at the opening ceremony.
