UTTARKASHI: With 17 days having passed with little hope or comfort, the 41 trapped workers inside the Silkyara Bend-Barkot Tunnel at Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand, one of the workers, Gabbar Singh Negi has taken the onus to keep the morale of the other workers high.

Negi, the Uttarakhand resident who is trapped inside the tunnel, had earlier been trapped inside a tunnel in Jammu where he spent 26 days. During his regular visits, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami contacts the trapped worker unfailingly to take cognisance of his mental and physical well being.

Arvind Bhatt, a co-worker of Negi and a close aide, told The New Indian, “Earlier he spent 26 days at Jammu Tunnel where he had been trapped. We know, Negi, along with 40 of my co-workers will come out of the tunnel safe and sound,” said Bhatt.

A local social activist, Rajesh Bharadwaj, who was present at the tunnel site told The New Indian that Negi had been felicitated at a Ramlila manch by them, and it is his belief in Lord Ram too which will help him escape.

“Negi believes in Shree Ram. As our Lord returned to Ayodhya, we have full hope that Negi will also come back with others,” said Bhardwaj.

To keep the morale of the trapped workers high and healthy, officials said that they were playing various kinds of games to keep themselves occupied, while also having Negi with them to do away with all negative thoughts.

Presently, the rescue team and other authorities are speaking to the trapped workers on a daily basis, about four times a day. On the other hand, the teams are expecting to get the workers rescued in a couple of days.
