NEW DELHI: Days after former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi played a major role to douse the tensions in poll bound Uttarakhand, state party in-charge Devendra Yadav on Monday said that state unit chief Ganesh Godiyal will be the grand old party’s face in the state.

Speaking to the media after launching the party theme song at Congress headquarters here, Yadav said, “Godiyal will be the party’s face in Uttarakhand and all leaders will contest elections under his leadership.”

The remarks came days after Rahul Gandhi held a meeting with former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Yadav and several others.

Rawat had sent a few cryptic tweets over the handling of affairs in Congress in Uttarakhand, which is set to go to polls next year.

Rawat on December 22 had expressed anguish at the factionalism in the state unit and said that this thought has been crossing his mind for a while that “it’s time to rest”.

Following his public outburst, Rahul Gandhi called a meeting for all leaders to stop the infighting in the state ahead of the crucial assembly polls.
