US NSA Sullivan visits India to strengthen India-US partnership, focusing on global stability.
NEW DELHI: In a significant move to bolster the India-US strategic partnership, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar met US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Washington on Friday. The discussions underscored the growing synergy between the two nations across various domains, reflecting a shared commitment to global stability and prosperity.
The meeting, which took place against the backdrop of intensifying geopolitical challenges, highlighted the strengthening of bilateral ties, particularly in defence, technology, and economic cooperation. Both leaders emphasized the need for closer collaboration in emerging areas like critical technologies, clean energy, and artificial intelligence, aligning with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump.

EAM Jaishankar described the discussions as “productive,” noting their alignment on several regional and global issues. “Our partnership with the United States is crucial not only for the growth and stability of our two nations but also for addressing the challenges faced by the world today,” he stated.
NSA Sullivan echoed similar sentiments, underscoring the importance of the India-US relationship as a cornerstone of global security. “India and the United States share a vision of a free, open, and secure Indo-Pacific region. Our engagement is aimed at advancing shared democratic values and creating a framework for sustainable global progress,” Sullivan remarked.
The leaders also delved into matters of regional security, with a focus on countering terrorism and ensuring peace in the Indo-Pacific. The meeting reaffirmed India’s role as a pivotal player in the Quad alliance, which includes the US, Japan, and Australia.

The discussions also reflected mutual concerns over China’s assertive behaviour in the region, with both leaders agreeing on the importance of upholding international law and respecting territorial sovereignty.
Economic collaboration featured prominently in the talks, with both sides exploring avenues to deepen trade and investment. The emphasis was on leveraging India’s position as a global IT hub and a rapidly growing economy to enhance supply chain resilience and drive innovation.
The meeting comes as part of a broader effort to maintain momentum in India-US relations following the landmark state visit of PM Modi to Washington earlier this year.
The dialogue reaffirmed the strategic intent of both nations to work together on issues ranging from climate change and global health to space exploration and technological innovation.
