NEW DELHI: The Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group (TRCSG) recently conducted joint maritime operations with the Indian Navy in the Indian Ocean on July 12, 2024. This collaboration aims to enhance interoperability between the two nations, reinforcing their commitment to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

The U.S. and Indian forces worked together to improve maritime domain awareness, enhance information sharing, streamline replenishment and logistics interoperability, and refine combined air-to-air capabilities. The U.S. units involved included the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), Carrier Air Wing 11, and the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Daniel Inouye (DDG 118). The Indian Navy contributed the guided missile destroyer INS Visakhapatnam (D66) and the replenishment ship INS Aditya (A59).

The Indian Navy’s participation in multilateral exercises with the U.S. Navy is routine, spanning the Pacific, Southwest Asia, and littoral Africa. Notably, the Indian Navy is also taking on leadership roles alongside the U.S. Navy and other allies in the ongoing Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2024 exercise in Hawaii.

The largest forward-deployed numbered fleet of the U.S. Navy was the U.S. 7th Fleet, which engages regularly with its allies and partners to uphold a free and open Indo-Pacific region. USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) continues its operations with Carrier Strike Group Nine, following these joint activities in the 7th Fleet area of operations.
