NEW DELHI: Voting was temporarily halted at several DeKalb County polling locations after bomb threats were reported at seven sites, including five voting precincts. In response, DeKalb County Voter Registration & Elections and local police conducted bomb sweeps at each location to ensure public safety.
The affected polling places include New Bethel AME Church, New Life Community Center, North DeKalb Senior Center, Reid H. Cofer Library, and Wesley Chapel Library. Additional threats targeted Stonecrest (Old Sam’s Club), which is not an active polling site, and Salem Panola Library.

DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond assured the public, stating, “Every asset that we have will be deployed to ensure that every citizen who wants to vote will be given that opportunity and every vote cast will be counted.” Keisha Smith, Executive Director of DeKalb Voter Registration & Elections, added, “Out of an abundance of caution, we are suspending voting at these polling locations until we have clearance from DeKalb Police to reopen the facilities.”
To accommodate affected voters, the DeKalb County Law Department is pursuing an emergency order to extend voting hours at the impacted locations.
