LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) has arrested a Saharanpur resident who was planning to carry out a suicide attack in India with the help of terrorists based in Pakistan and Afghanistan, it said on Friday.

Muhammad Nadeem, a resident of Kunda Kalan village in Saharanpur’s Gangoh, was tasked by Pakistan-based terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) with killing suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma for her objectionable remarks on Prophet Mohammed, officials said.

On questioning, the alleged terrorist admitted that he had been in touch with various terrorists of Tehrik-i-Taliban (TTP), Pakistan and JeM through WhatsApp, Telegram, IMO, Facebook Messenger, and Club House since 2018.

Police have found chats and voice messages between him and terrorists, and a PDF document titled “Explosive Course Fidae Force” from his smartphone.

TTP & JeM terrorists provided him with more than 30 virtual numbers and virtual social media IDs.

Pakistan-based TTP terrorist Saifullah was grooming him to carry out a suicide attack on a government building or any police premises. He provided Nadeem with training material of “Explosive Course Fidae Force” through social media.

Nadeem read the training material and was trying to collect the explosives required.

During questioning, Nadeem told ATS officials that terrorists in Pakistan and Afghanistan asked him to visit Pakistan for special training in JeM camps.

He was also planning to visit Afghanistan and Syria via Egypt, officials said.

A case has been registered at the ATS police station in Lucknow under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

On Tuesday, the ATS arrested an alleged terrorist with links to the terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) who was planning an attack on the upcoming Independence Day.

Sabauddin Azmi, a member of the Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM, was arrested after questioning in Lucknow, as per Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Law and Order, Prashant Kumar.
