UP police fearlessly names its 12 cops who killed Atiq’s son

In a bold move, the Uttar Pradesh Police has fearlessly named the 12 officers who were involved in the encounter that led to the death of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad’s son, Asad. The encounter has been termed as “heroic” by the Police.

According to officials, Asad, the son of former gangster and now politician Atiq Ahmad, along with an accomplice, were killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Police in Jhansi on Thursday. Both individuals were wanted in connection with the murder case of Umesh Pal. The Police also informed that modern foreign weapons recovered from the criminals.

According to Special Additional Director General (Law and Order) Prasahant Kumar, Asad and Ghulam, both wanted in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case in Prayagraj, had a reward of Rs 5 lakh each on their heads. The two were killed in an encounter with the UP STF team, led by Deputy SP Navendu and Vimal. The police recovered sophisticated foreign-made weapons from the accused. The officer added that further details are awaited.

On February 24 of this year, Umesh Pal, a crucial witness in the 2005 murder case of then BSP MLA Raju Pal, along with his two police security guards, were fatally shot outside his residence in the Dhoomanganj area of Prayagraj.

After a complaint was filed by Umesh Pal’s wife Jaya Pal, a case was registered on February 25 against Atiq Ahmad, his brother Ashraf, Asad, Ghulam, and several others. The FIR was lodged under various sections of the IPC, including 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapons), 149 (unlawful assembly guilty of an offense committed in prosecution of a common object), 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), and 506 (criminal intimidation). Notably, Atiq Ahmad is also an accused in the 2005 Raju Pal murder case.

The murder of BJP leader Umesh Pal, a key witness in the 2005 daylight murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal, was allegedly carried out by Atiq’s gang on 24 February this year. Atiq, along with his brother, wife, sons, and other associates, were booked in the case, and five people were identified as the shooters, including Asad and Ghulam. Pal’s murder was reportedly motivated by his increasing visibility and influence in the area, which threatened Atiq’s gang.
