In a miraculous incident, a 12-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Nimgaon was saved by a supremely proficient surgeon. Taiba, who lives in Bhulanpur village, fell on the three-feet metal pole which rammed into her throat. The accident happened when she had taken her goats out in the field for grazing.

The semi-finished building’s metal bars were sticking out of the pavement beside the road. While she was walking near one of those bars, her foot slipped and she fell on it. As soon as they heard her cries for help, the neighbours and family members rushed to the spot and immediately took her to the district hospital, Motipur.

Dr. Rajkumar Kohli arrived at the hospital after he got to know about the horrific accident. The bar that had rammed into her throat was removed with only a minor procedure. She was then stitched up around her neck and placed in the isolation ward of the hospital. After her condition improved, she was allowed to feed on light food on Tuesday.

Dr. Kohli, admitted that he was alarmed to witness the 3-feet-long bar slammed into the girl’s body through the throat. But after assessing her condition and noticing that bleeding wasn’t too much, the doctors decided to conduct a minor operation to remove the rod from the child’s body after rendering her unconscious.

The girl’s condition is stable now. The CMO has appreciated the work of Dr. Kohli and other doctors. Most of these serious cases in the district hospital are often referred to Lucknow. But in this case, Dr. Kohli stepped up and skillfully performed a crackerjack surgery to save the life of the girl.

“The condition of the girl was highly critical. Hence, she was being referred to Lucknow by the medical staff of the district hospital. When I saw her, I realised that the bleeding would further increase if she was made to move to Lucknow. To prevent the overflow of blood, I asked the staff to immediately bring the girl to the operation theatre. Initially, they were hesitant but I was absolutely certain,” Dr. Kohli told The New Indian.

“I decided to numb that particular area, through which the bar had pierced into her throat, to pull out the iron bar without causing any further injury. After the bar was successfully removed, the girl started talking within eight hours. It was the most grievous case I’ve encountered in my professional life,” he concluded.
