NEW DELHI: The ‘telly drama’ came alive on the streets of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad when police from two states –Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh – reached to nab TV journalist, Rohit Ranjan, who is an accused in two different cases, at his residence.
The police teams from both states had a spat and physical confrontation,
much to the surprise of many in the locality, t However, it was UP Police that finally won the ‘pitch battle’ as they managed to take Ranjan with them.
Noida Police had registered a case under section 505 (Statements conducing to public mischief) of the IPC. Late in the night, Noida police said that “Ranjan has been released on bail as sections against him are bailable offences”.
Last week a case was registered by Chhattisgarh’s Raipur Police after a video of the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was circulated on social media. The Zee News in its show DNA allegedly ran a fabricated video stating that Rahul Gandhi was talking about the Udaipur incident. However, after realising their mistake, Zee News apologised the next day in their show.
After this goof-up, Zee News had to face a lot of criticism and Congress workers also protested outside the Zee Media office in Noida.
Early on Monday morning, a team of Raipur Police reached Ranjan’s residence in Indirapuram. Immediately after getting the information, Rohit tweeted “without giving information to local police, Chhattisgarh police have come to arrest me”.
Ghaziabad police were quick to respond to the tweet and stated that local police would be reached very soon.
However, Raipur police tweeted: “There is no such rule to inform… police team has shown you courts warrant… you should cooperate, join in the investigation and put your defence in court.”
Security guards of his society also made PCR calls stating that a few persons were trying to barge into the society and also confined the guards. Soon, a team of Ghaziabad police reached Ranjan’s house.
A team from Noida Sector 20 police station also reached Ranjan’s house. They said that they have registered a separate case and wanted to question Rohit.
Chhattisgarh Police tried to stop Noida police, but they could not stop them and Noida police took Rohit with them.
Later in the evening, Congress workers held a protest outside the Zee News office alleging UP police intervening in the work of Chhattisgarh police.
