Kohli’s Frustration Boils Over During Boxing Day Test.
NEW DELHI: Virat Kohli once again found himself at the center of controversy on Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. Under immense pressure following a disastrous run-out involving Yashasvi Jaiswal, Kohli’s dismissal for just 36 further compounded India’s struggles against a dominant Australian side. The situation escalated as Kohli, walking back to the pavilion amid boos from the crowd, lost his composure after an apparent taunt from a spectator.
The comment seemed to ignite Kohli’s frustration. Clearly agitated, he turned around and began walking back toward the fan, his body language radiating anger. The tension in the stands was palpable, with many spectators watching the incident unfold. The situation threatened to escalate further until an official stepped in, placed a calming hand on Kohli’s shoulder, and guided him toward the dressing room. The official encouraged Kohli to ignore the provocations and focus on moving past the moment.
Really disrespectful behavior with country’s best batter. Criticism is ok, but abuse crosses the line. Upholding the spirit of cricket and supporting our players with dignity.#ViratKohli𓃵 #INDvsAUS #AUSvIND pic.twitter.com/NnZPDkeOs7

This wasn’t the first incident of the match where Kohli’s emotions ran high. On Day 1, he was fined 20% of his match fee for a shoulder-bump altercation with Australian batter Sam Konstas during a heated exchange on the field. The accumulation of these moments has painted a picture of a visibly frustrated Kohli struggling to contain his emotions in what has been a challenging Test for the Indian team.

Adding to the turmoil was the run-out debacle with Jaiswal that marked a turning point in India’s innings. Jaiswal hit the ball to mid-on and called for a quick single, but Kohli hesitated and looked back. This moment of indecision resulted in both players ending up at the same end, leaving Jaiswal to face the consequences of the miscommunication.
By the end of Day 2, India’s troubles deepened as they trailed Australia by 310 runs with five wickets down. The challenges on the field have been amplified by Kohli’s on-and-off-field reactions, adding an extra layer of drama to an already intense Test match.
