ANAND: Travelling through Ahmedabad, the New Indian team reaches Anand, known fondly as the “milk city” of India, with its renowned universities and being the birthplace of numerous Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).
Rudren Patadia, a second-year engineering student, along with his two peers, told The New Indian, “The city is safe for students; people are sophisticated here.” One of the female students supported his statement and said, “Yes, the city is comparatively safer for women than other metropolitan cities.”
Another student added, “The city is very safe; women are moving freely, as compared to other states, it is very safe.” When asked which government they want to credit for maintaining law and order in the city, the students backed only the BJP.

Dishant Patel, 21, said, “I am happy with the development, the development only came under the rule of BJP and is visible across India.”
“I am a supporter of BJP; hands down, BJP will win,” affirmed a student who has always supported BJP. Another young biker said, “I am a biker, and I have seen the development of roads and highways; they are amazing to ride on, very smooth roads.”
But the students miss the nightlife and complain that everything closes at 12, despite being in a student area; they need nightlife like Ahmedabad. “We miss the nightlife,” laments one student, highlighting a common sentiment among the youth. “Everything closes at 12, despite being a student area, we crave the vibrant evenings”
They further demand a proper drainage system in the city, citing the problems they face during the monsoon seasons when the roads fill with water.
With only a few days remaining of the election on May 7, Anand in central Gujarat faces massive support to re-elect its sitting MP, Mitesh Patel, to strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s position.
Patel, who defeated Bharatbhai Madhavsinh Solanki of the INC in 2019, is now contesting against Amit Chavda, former state president of Congress.
