NEW DELHI: As the heatwaves in the country are not giving any relief and more of them are predicted in several parts of the country to continue, the Union Health Ministry has released a public advisory. In a post shared on twitter the advisory said, “As temperatures rise, it’s crucial to take care of yourself and others”, with that it has also shared some simple tips to follow and stay cool and comfortable:
– Monitor the health of elderly or sick people living alone daily.
– Use curtains, shutters, or sunshades, and open windows at night.
– Try to stay on lower floors during the day.
– Use a fan and damp clothes to cool down the body.

Further The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) latest bulletin warns of continuing heatwave conditions in East and Northwest India over the next few days, alongside predictions of extremely heavy rainfall in Sikkim and West Bengal. It has issued warnings for severe heat waves to continue in the Northern part.
A orange alert has been issued in Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab until June 17th, indicating high temperatures and an increased likelihood of heat-related illness for those exposed to prolonged sun or engaging in heavy work. The IMD advises using ORS, homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice water), lemon water, and buttermilk to stay hydrated.
Ways to prevent from heat waves:
Regardless of your susceptibility to heatwaves, the most important thing is to stay hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure. Avoiding going outside during peak hours is recommended, even if one has to, staying in the shade, and using sunscreen to avoid sunburn is primary.
Wear light, loose-fitting clothing and sunglasses to protect your eyes, along with a cap and umbrella if necessary. Eating light, non-spicy foods is also recommended so that the body does not generate heat. The above are the few basic tips which can be followed to prevent heat strokes and ill effects of heat waves.
