A pregnant woman in labour pain was airlifted from Uttarkashi to Dehradun after Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami intervened in the matter.
Rajma Devi (30), who was pregnant with twins, was advised by the doctors in a local government facility to move to a bigger health centre for medical assistance to avoid complications.
Pradeep Bhatt, the district panchayat member, told The New Indian, “Gram Pradhan of Kamad village, which is a remote place, informed me about the situation. I rushed to bring the woman and her family to Uttarkashi and called up CM Dhami ji requesting help. He immediately ordered the airlift of the woman to Dehradun.”
The woman, who was taken to Government Doon Medical College, gave birth to a baby boy and girl. “The babies and the mother are doing fine. We thank our CM for his intervention and help,” added Bhatt.
The woman and her husband, Shivraj, come from an underprivileged background and did not have the resources to travel to Dehradun or afford costly treatment, sources said.
Meanwhile, torrential showers have wreaked havoc across the hill state of Uttarakhand, blocking over 250 roads due to landslides. Five people have lost their lives while 12 are still missing. After heavy rains hit the state on Friday night, incidents of cloud bursts and landslides were reported from across Uttarakhand, prompting the government to launch rescue and relief operations.
Uttarakhand State Disaster Response Force has launched operation ‘Jungle Gadhera Resort’ to deal with the situation. The CM is also keeping a tab on the situation. Dhami visited the disaster- stricken areas and took stock of the preparations and issued instructions to provide every possible relief to the affected people. Dhami on Saturday had said that help of the Indian Army will be sought if the need arises.
The state government machinery is ensuring supply of essential commodities like food grains, medicines, fuel and maintaining continuous coordination with the mobile operator companies so that there is no problem in the communication network.
