NEW DELHI: Udit Narayan, the renowned playback singer, is facing severe criticism after a viral video surfaced, showing him kissing female fans during a recent concert.
The 69-year-old artist, known for his iconic songs, has come under fire for what many are calling inappropriate behaviour. In the controversial footage, Narayan is seen returning kisses from his fans, including one instance where he allegedly kissed a female fan on the lips, despite her attempting to kiss him on the cheek.
The clip quickly gained traction on social media, sparking outrage across the internet. Many users were quick to label his actions as โdisgustingโ and โunprofessional,โ with some questioning his behaviour given his age. One Reddit user commented, โSir, youโre getting older, you have respect, show some decency!โ

In response to the backlash, Narayan attempted to defend his actions, describing the moment as an โexpression of loveโ from his fans.
โFans are so crazy about me. We are decent people; this is just their way of showing love,โ he explained.
Narayan continued, โThere are so many people in the crowd, and we have bodyguards present. Fans think they are getting a chance to meet me, and some extend their hands for a handshake, while others kiss my handsโฆ this is just madness. We shouldnโt focus too much on it.โ

However, the singerโs explanation has done little to quell the outrage. Critics argue that his response fails to address the discomfort his actions caused and suggest that it reflects poorly on his public image.

Narayanโs claim that heโs simply trying to please his fans does little to absolve him from the backlash, as public figures are expected to uphold higher standards, especially when interacting with the public.
