NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) which is probing the broad daylight murder of Kanhaiya Lal Telli in Rajasthan’s Udaipur has focused on the involvement of more than two assailants involved in the case, sources said on Thursday.

The development comes a day after the NIA re-registered a case on the orders of the Union ministry of home affairs on Wednesday.

A top NIA source related to development here said that the agency’s sleuths are focusing on the involvement of more than two accused persons in the present case.

He said that looking at the barbaric murder of Telli, recording the entire incident on camera and then releasing a confessional recorded statement by brandishing blood-soaked weapons including the threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, clearly indicates the involvement of more people and a part of a bigger conspiracy.

The source also said that the mobile phones of the arrested accused persons have also been sent for forensic examination.

The source said that the report of the two mobile phones is expected in three days, which will help the NIA to get more leads about with whom they were in touch.

The source said that their mobile holds key to information which the agency wants to unearth. The source said that as one of the accused Mohammad Riyaz had gone to Pakistan in 2014 or 2015, so the forensic report will help the anti-terror probe agency to get the list of people based in Pakistan with whom they were communicating and about their plans.

The source also said that to monitor the probe from all angles, one Inspector General level officer has been sent to Udaipur.

The source also disclosed that the two accused are currently not being brought to Delhi but they will be kept at the Jaipur office of the agency and they will be produced before the NIA court there only.

The source said that the agency is yet to question the two arrested accused and arrest them formally.
