Uber launches Delhi’s first licensed AC shuttle service

NEW DELHI: Uber has become the first aggregator to receive a license from the Transport Department to operate Uber Shuttle in the national capital under the Delhi Premium Bus scheme. This new service, featuring air-conditioned buses accommodating 19 to 50 passengers, aims to enhance the commuting experience in the city.

The Uber Shuttle service allows passengers to pre-book seats via the ‘Uber Shuttle’ option on the Uber app. Riders can book their seats up to a week in advance and track the live location and route of the bus, as well as view its expected time of arrival (ETA). Local fleet partners will operate the buses, supported by Uber’s technology and platform.

This launch follows a successful pilot in the Delhi NCR region, where Uber noted high demand for such a service. The company has already been operating Uber Shuttle in Kolkata since last year, witnessing positive feedback from users.

“Uber Shuttle aims to provide tech-optimized mobility solutions using private bus fleets, addressing road congestion and reducing carbon emissions by encouraging shared rides,” Uber stated. Amit Deshpande, Head of Uber Shuttle India, expressed confidence in the initiative, highlighting its potential benefits for both commuters and drivers. “Through a new option for commuters and creating a new source of livelihood for drivers, we are confident that this initiative will prove to be a win-win for all,” Deshpande said.

The introduction of the Uber Shuttle in Delhi aims to provide a reliable and convenient transportation option for the city’s residents, addressing the issues of road congestion and pollution. With Uber’s technological support, the service is expected to bring significant improvements to the daily commute of many Delhiites.
