NEW DELHI: An American businessman and U.S. Congressman Shri Thanedar shows concern over the escalating turmoil in Bangladesh, describing it as a “horrific” situation that threatens the country’s democracy.
Thanedar recently took to X, formerly known as Twitter, “The ongoing turmoil engulfing Bangladesh is horrific and a threat to its democracy. Last month, students led protests for civil reforms, which was followed by deaths of hundreds and the persecution of minority populations, including Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians.”

Author and politician Thanedar noted the significant development on August 6th when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned from office and fled to India, leaving Bangladesh in a state of disarray with the military assuming control of the country.
Days after the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, seventeen members of Bangladesh’s interim government took their oaths at a ceremony in Dhaka on Thursday, August 8. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been sworn in as Bangladesh’s interim leader.
He further added, “As Bangladesh transitions to its interim government, I implore every Bangladeshi, from the leadership to the people, to put an end to the violence plaguing their country,” he stated in his post. He expressed particular concern over reports of targeted attacks against the Hindu minority, citing accounts of temples being destroyed, homes being leveled, and individuals being persecuted. He labeled these actions as “disturbing and reprehensible.”
The politician further pledged to closely monitor the developments in Bangladesh in coordination with the U.S. State Department, expressing his hope for a swift return to peace and stability for all Bangladeshis, regardless of their religious beliefs.
He further writes in his post, “I pledge to keep a close eye on developments in Bangladesh in coordination with the U.S. State Department and wish for a return to peace and stability for every Bangladeshi, no matter their beliefs.”
