Srinagar: Security forces neutralized two unidentified terrorists in a fierce encounter in the Sagipora locality of Sopore in Baramulla district, North Kashmir.

The encounter erupted last night when Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with the Indian Army’s 22 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), initiated a coordinated operation in the area.

Kashmir Zone Police confirmed, “Two terrorists were taken down in the Sopore encounter. Verification of their identities and affiliations is underway. We recovered weapons, ammunition, and other evidence. Additional updates to follow.”

An official noted that firing was paused late Thursday night due to limited visibility. Approximately two or three terrorists were suspected to be holed up in a residential building.

Security forces have intensified actions against terrorists in recent weeks, prompted by multiple violent incidents. Within the past two days, forces eliminated two other terrorists—one in the Lolab region of Kupwara and another in Bandipora’s Ketsun forests.

On October 20, terrorists carried out a deadly assault on a worker camp of an infrastructure firm in Gagangir, Ganderbal, killing seven individuals.

Days later, on October 24, three Army soldiers and two civilian porters lost their lives when an Army vehicle was ambushed in Botapathri, Gulmarg, Baramulla.

The tragic deaths of nine civilians and three soldiers in the Gagangir and Gulmarg attacks drew widespread condemnation. In response, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha warned that those responsible for the bloodshed would face severe consequences. “Every drop of innocent blood spilled will be avenged,” he pledged.
