SHIVAMOGGA: The Shivamogga police on Tuesday said all accused in the murder case of Bajrang Dal activist Harsha have been identified and will soon be held.

“All the accused have been identified. The teams are outside as well as in Shivamogga district. So, work is going on and we are on the verge of completing the detection and arresting the accused persons,” Additional Director General of Police Pratap Reddy told reporters.

The police has already arrested six persons in connection with the murder. Harsha was stabbed to death on Sunday night at Bharathi Nagar in the city allegedly by a group of men, who arrived in a car.

The names of the arrested people are Asifulla, Rihan Sharif, Kashif, Nihan, Nadeem and Abdul Afnan.

His murder has sparked off uproar in the city as several cases of violence, arson, and stone-pelting were reported during his funeral procession on Monday. The incident left at least 20 people injured and many vehicles were torched.

Reserve forces have been deployed in the city to ensure law and order. Senior police officials are monitoring the situation that remains tense. Prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) are in place till February 23.

“We are examining whether the incident has taken place against the backdrop of hijab row and if there is an involvement of any communal organization in the incident,” state Home Minister Araga Jnanendra told the reporters on Tuesday. “We are also probing who all sponsored the murder by providing financial assistance and vehicles. The police have been asked to investigate the matter thoroughly. Murders like this should stop with Harsha’s case and the case should be taken to its logical end,” he added.

“The Police have been asked to ensure that no innocent should be arrested and only those involved in this grisly murder must be put behind the bars. Senior police officers have been stationed here to monitor the investigation and situation. Action will also be initiated against those indulging in stone-pelting,” the home minister added.

“The overall situation is peaceful. The public should not worry as the situation will normalise soon. Two persons — Kasif and Nadeem — have been taken into custody by police. Nadeem has around 10 cases on him,” Karnataka Minister-in-charge of Shivamogga district, KC Narayana Gowda, said.

On Monday, Karnataka Minister KS Eshwarappa blamed ‘Musalmaan goondas’ (Muslim goons) for his killing. “I’m very disturbed by the murder of a Bajrang Dal activist. He was killed by ‘Musalmaan goondas’ (Muslim goons). I’m going to Shivamogga now to analyse the situation. We’ll not allow ‘goondaism’,” he said after the incident.

The social media is abuzz after Harsha’s murder with many prominent netizens vehemently condemning the murder and asking for strict punishment for the perpetrators. The DGP Karnataka’s twitter handle has been sharing details as well as busting fake news being shared on social media platforms in the wake of Harsha’s murder.
