Twin encounters in J&K: Two terrorists killed in Bandipora, Kupwara

SRINAGAR: An unidentified terrorist was killed, and two security officers were injured during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Tuesday.

 

Acting on intelligence of terrorist presence in the Choontpathri forest, security forces launched a search operation. According to a police spokesperson, a confrontation began when terrorists fired on the security personnel, who then returned fire. In the exchange, one terrorist was neutralized, while an Army soldier and a CRPF officer sustained injuries.

 

 

An update from the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps on X stated, “Following credible intelligence about terrorists in the Kaitsan forest area, a coordinated mission was initiated by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF. Contact was made, and an exchange of gunfire occurred. The operation is ongoing.”

 

In a related incident, another encounter took place between security forces and terrorists late Tuesday in the Margi area of Lolab, Kupwara. As per official sources, one unidentified terrorist has been killed and the operation is underway.

Chinar Corps noted, “On November 5, based on intelligence regarding terrorist presence, a joint mission was conducted by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Margi, Lolab, Kupwara. Contact was established, resulting in a firefight. The operation is underway.”

 

 

These recent incidents are part of a surge in terrorist attacks in the Union Territory. Earlier on Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with the 22 Rashtriya Rifles and 92 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force, detained a terrorist associate, Ashiq Hussain Wani, in Sopore.

In other recent incidents, on November 3, a grenade attack injured twelve people, including a woman, near the Tourist Reception Centre in Srinagar.

 

Just the day before, two terrorists were killed by security forces during an encounter in Anantnag district’s Halkan Gali area.

 

On October 29, security personnel neutralized three terrorists after an attack on an Army convoy in Akhnoor. On October 20, a deadly attack at a tunnel construction site on the Srinagar-Leh highway claimed the lives of a doctor and six workers in Ganderbal.
