NEW DELHI: Donald Trump’s victory in Pennsylvania, a pivotal swing state, has significantly changed the course of the U.S. presidential election and put him one step closer to regaining the White House. With 19 electoral votes, Pennsylvania has long been a crucial battleground that frequently determines the outcome of elections. In addition to improving Trump’s chances of winning the presidency, this victory reverses the state’s 2020 Democratic tilt.

With 93% of the vote counted, Trump increased his lead over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris by 3 percentage points as the evening went on and the ballots kept coming in. Given that preliminary results had indicated Harris might have had the advantage, this victory is all the more impressive. Trump’s position is further solidified now that he has Pennsylvania on his side and a firm grasp on other crucial swing states like Georgia, North Carolina, and Michigan.

Although the race has stayed close in some battleground states, such as Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada, Trump appears to be on course to win the Electoral College majority based on his consistent leads in the majority. The contest has been rocked by this event, which could portend a significant political change. In addition to giving Trump the presidency, winning these states would signal a dramatic break with the Democrats’ reliance on traditional blue states, which have been crucial to their recent successes.

But this road to triumph is far from certain. Trump’s campaign is keeping a close eye on the tally of the final ballots and the outcome of other crucial states. He would outmanoeuvre the Democrats so thoroughly that they would have little hope of winning back if he won the remaining states. If Trump maintains his momentum and wins back the presidency in the next hours, it could significantly change the political environment for both parties and reshape American politics for years to come.
