NEW DELHI: 20-year-old Trump rally shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was bullied in school, according to his peers. He was fatally shot by Secret Service snipers when he fired at the former US President Donald Trump.

He graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2022. According to Crooks’ former classmate Jason Kohler, the suspect endured severe bullying. Kohler stated that Crooks frequently wore “hunting” attire to school. He was a reserved individual who did not display violent tendencies, according to his peers. The shooter’s classmates described him as a shy and reserved individual who kept to himself, felt like a misfit in high school, and showed no interest in politics. According to one classmate, he was occasionally bullied and was considered a “loner,” which made him “an easy target.”

“I just couldn’t believe he did something that bold, considering he was such a quiet and kept-to-himself kind of person,” one of his classmates remarked.

The Crooks family is struggling to comprehend the events of Saturday. Matthew Crooks, Thomas’ father, was shocked and stated, “I’m trying to figure out what’s happening.” Mark Crooks, the shooter’s uncle, conveyed to the media that the incident has deeply shocked the entire family, and they remain bewildered about what could have prompted Thomas to attack Donald Trump at the Pennsylvania rally. “I’m at a loss for words,” the 68-year-old shared, expressing that he is still trying to process it.

Matthew and Mary Crooks, the shooter’s parents, both were certified behavioural counsellors. Thomas Crooks, who was 20 years old, would have been eligible to vote in his first presidential election.
