NEW DELHI: A major win for Donald Trump in Nevada has solidified his bid for the presidency of the United States in 2024. Trump is ahead of Democratic opponent Kamala Harris by 51.5% to 46.8% with 85% of the vote recorded. This victory is crucial for Trump as the state’s results are still being finalized because it puts him one step closer to the 270 electoral votes required to win the presidency.

With six electoral votes that are vital to the election’s result, Nevada has long been seen as a battleground state. Trump’s impressive showing in rural and suburban areas has turned the scales in his favor, despite Democrats’ historical dominance in the state. The key to his overall advantage is turning out to be his lead in counties like Washoe and Clark, particularly in more conservative areas.

The Republican candidate’s surge in Nevada is a component of a broader trend of victory in crucial swing states. Trump has already won in North Carolina, Georgia, and Arizona, suggesting that the political landscape may be changing. His campaign has garnered significant support from suburban communities and white working-class voters, who have traditionally been split between the two major parties, as has been the case in other battleground states.

The final count is anticipated to be close in major cities like Las Vegas and Reno, where Harris had a slim lead in the early going. But Trump’s support in the state’s rural sections has outpaced Democratic support in the state’s cities. Mail-in ballots and absentee votes have not yet been entirely counted, so the battle for Nevada is not yet concluded. However, Trump’s lead indicates that he will persevere in order to win the state’s electoral votes.

Trump’s chances of obtaining the 270 electoral votes are rising as Nevada joins an expanding list of states that are supporting him.
