Moitra Dubey tussle: TMC adapts "wait and watch policy" pol analysts raises question

Summary

In the midst of the intensifying dispute concerning the claim made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey that Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra received โ€œbribesโ€ for raising questions in Parliament

NEW DELHI: In the midst of the intensifying dispute concerning the claim made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey that Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra received โ€œbribesโ€ for raising questions in Parliament, an accusation denied by Moitra as untrue, the TMC, led by Mamata Banerjee, has chosen to remain reticent.

On Wednesday, while speaking with The New Indian, a senior TMC leader stated, โ€œItโ€™s wait and watch for us now. Our party is monitoring things closely.โ€

The political controversy began when BJPโ€™s Nishikant Dubey accused Moitra, who is the representative of the Krishnanagar constituency in West Bengal, of granting Darshan Hiranandani and the Hiranandani Conglomerate access to her Lok Sabha website login credentials for her personal benefit. He views this accusation as the most significant among all the charges against her.

Further Dubey even sought โ€˜immediate suspensionโ€™ for Moitra from the House based on his accusations. He said that if these allegations are found to be accurate, it would constitute a serious breach of trust and a violation of Indiaโ€™s national security. This is because it granted unauthorised people access to government websites that may contain classified information.

On the contrary, Moitra responded to Dubeyโ€™s allegations by initially addressing them through her posts on X, and subsequently, served him with a legal notice. In her post, Moitra, taking a jab at Dubey, wrote, โ€œAm using all my ill-gotten cash and gifts to buy a college/university in which Degree Dubey can finally buy a real degree. Please Om Birla finish the enquiries against him for false affidavits and then set up my enquiry committee.โ€

Moitra continued to express her viewpoint by tagging Ashwini Vaishnaw and stating, โ€œAll parliamentary work of MPs done by PAs, assistants, interns, large teams.  Respected  @ashwinivaishnaw please release details of location & login details of ALL MPs with CDRs . Please release info on training given to staff to login.โ€

While the Opposition has rallied behind Moitra, political experts suggest that the TMCโ€™s wait-and-watch approach raises questions, particularly since the party has a track record of being swift to defend its members, as history has shown.
