NEW DELHI: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar called for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) during the 25th convocation of IIT Guwahati on Tuesday.
He emphasised that any further delay in implementing the UCC would be detrimental to the nationโs values. VP Dhankar highlighted that Article 44 of the Constitution clearly states that the state should strive to secure the UCC for all citizens across the country.
โThis was the thought process of the founding fathers. The time has come for its implementation and there can be no impediment or further delay,โ he said.
Addressing the issue of anti-national narratives, the Vice President cautioned against attempts to tarnish Indiaโs image. He stressed the importance of safeguarding the countryโs sovereignty and reputation, asserting that no foreign entity should be allowed to interfere with them.
โIt is high time choreographers of anti-Bharat narrative orchestration are effectively rebuffed,โ he said.

Dhankar also emphasised the need for a corruption-free society, stating that corruption is anti-democratic and hampers growth. He called for zero tolerance towards corruption, highlighting its adverse effects on governance and development.
The Vice President expressed disapproval of individuals resorting to street protests rather than following lawful processes when faced with corruption charges.
โCorruption is anti-democratic, corruption is poor governance, corruption runs down our growthโฆ a corruption-free society is the safest guarantee to your growth trajectory,โ he said.
Praising Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Dhankar commended his action-oriented approach and vision for Assam. He lauded Sarmaโs commitment to duty and urged the students to take pride in Indiaโs historical achievements.
โAction, vision and execution are capsuled in Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. He exemplifies commitment to duty, which is worth imitating,โ the Vice President said. โI am happy that I share with him one credential, we both happened to be lawyers at one point in time,โ he said.
In his address, the Vice President encouraged students to be tolerant and consider alternative perspectives, as differing viewpoints often contribute to a more accurate understanding.
The convocation ceremony witnessed the presence of the Governor of Assam, Gulab Chand Kataria, CM Sarma and other dignitaries.
The convocation marked a significant milestone for IIT Guwahati, as 2,011 students from the Silver Jubilee batch received their degrees. Since its first convocation in 1999, the institute has produced over 20,000 graduates.
