NEW DELHI: The Tiger Strike Force and Forest Department have successfully apprehended three poachers in connection with the death of a tiger in the Banspani forest which is in the Banapur Range. These arrested individuals are Kailash Korku, Pinta, and Ram Ratan, hailing from Banspani village.
The accused admitted to setting up an electric snare intended to trap wild boars during their interrogation. “We set the trap for wild boars but a tiger got caught and died from the electric shock,” confessed one of the poachers. They discovered the tiger dead in the trap the following morning and subsequently dragged the carcass into nearby bushes to conceal it before returning to their village.

The tragic discovery of the tiger’s body was made on December 11 during a routine patrol. A four-day intensive search operation, led by DFO Anil Chopra, culminated in the arrest of the three poachers on December 15. “The operation was carried out with utmost dedication. The accused revealed the location of the snare and tools after questioning,” Chopra stated. The authorities seized electric wires and wooden pegs used to set up the snare from the suspects.
Officials are currently investigating the involvement of additional individuals in this crime. The poachers have denied removing the tiger’s nails, teeth, or tail hair, which are often sold illegally. However, the search for these missing body parts continues.

Strict legal measures are being implemented to prevent poaching and protect wildlife,” he added.
The forest search operation is ongoing to uncover more evidence and identify other suspects involved in this incident. The authorities are committed to ensuring justice and protecting the wildlife in the region.
