NEW DELHI: Thousands of locals participated in the Tiranga Yatra organised by the fourth battalion of the Indo Tibet Border Police (ITBP) at Dirang, a remote border area of West Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh, on Tuesday.

Personnel of armed forces, school children, teachers, local public representatives, religious leaders, women, and elders took part in the yatra organised as part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

“The love of the people of Dirang region and dedication towards the Tricolor has been unmatched. Taking the national flag in hand and chanting slogans, everyone went to all the major places and streets of the city,” ITBP said in a release.

A large number of people also joined the rally passing through Dirang Basti and Bazar area and expressed their commitment to building a strong nation by waving their hands and raising slogans from their homes, it said.

The fourth battalion of ITBP is deployed for border security in remote, high altitude, rough and inhospitable areas of Tawang and West Kameng districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

Its deployment areas experience heavy snowfall in winter and frequent rains and landslides during the rainy season. Lack of all-weather road connectivity and communication facilities in the border areas adds to the difficulties of Himveers, as ITBP personnel call themselves, manifold.

The battalion has, in the past, carried out various civil action programmes, border area development programmes, quick response during rescue operations, fire fighting operations, and cleanliness drives.

Today’s Tiranga Yatra was aimed at encouraging citizens of the area to hoist the national flag at their homes from August 13 to August 15, 2022, as part of celebrations on the occasion of 75 years of Independence.
