This is not law, it’s dictatorship, it’s emergency: Sunita Kejriwal following CM’s arrest

Sunita Kejriwal calls his husband arrest similar to dictatorship and emergency.

NEW DELHI: AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal has accused the authorities of trying to ensure that her husband remains in jail and calling the situation similar to dictatorship and emergency. Her statement follows after the Delhi court reserved the custody order of CBI of CM Arvind Kejriwal.

She said in a post on X (formerly Twitter), “My husband was granted bail on June 20 in the excise policy-linked money laundering case, but the Enforcement Directorate (ED) immediately got a stay on the order. The next day, the CBI named him an accused and today, he was arrested. The entire system is working to keep him in jail. This isn’t law; it’s dictatorship, it’s emergency.”

On the other hand, his party has claimed that this arrest comes amidst his possibility of being bailed out by the Supreme Court and that the BJP has arrested him in a fake case, so he remains he jail.

Kejriwal had initially been granted bail, by a Delhi court on June 20, after his arrest by the ED on March 21. However, the ED contested this decision in the Delhi High Court, which stayed the bail on June 21 and reserved its order for June 25. Kejriwal’s legal team then sought intervention from the Supreme Court, which advised him to wait for the High Court’s decision.

On X the official handle of AAP also accused his proper medical care of not being taken care of and wrote, “The CBI took Kejriwal to Rouse Avenue Court, where his blood sugar level dropped significantly. No matter how much oppression you inflict, Kejriwal will neither bow nor break.”

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) formally arrested Kejriwal in connection with the alleged excise policy scam on Wednesday, June 26, and asked for five days in jail in the corruption case. The Delhi court later stated that the trial court failed to establish the requisite criteria for Kejriwal’s release under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), complicating the judicial process.

Kejriwal has been imprisoned since April 1 in connection with an excise policy-related money laundering case under investigation by the ED. The Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22, which was dropped by the Kejriwal government in July 2022, was the subject of a CBI investigation, following recommendations from Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, who found anomalies in its formulation and implementation.
