SRINAGAR: Authorities announced the arrest of a terrorist associated with the banned terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Tral, Awantipora on Monday. Weapons, ammunition, and other incriminating items were seized during the operation.
A police statement revealed that the operation was launched based on precise intelligence inputs. Awantipora Police, in coordination with the Army’s 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the 180th Battalion of CRPF, apprehended the terrorist in an orchard located in Pinglish village under Tral Police Station.

The arrested terrorist has been identified as Irshad Ahmad Chopan, son of Abdur Rahman Chopan, a resident of Lurgam, Tral. Security forces recovered a pistol, two magazines, 18 live rounds, and other objectionable materials from his possession.
According to initial findings, Chopan has been actively involved in multiple terror-related incidents across South Kashmir. He was previously linked to a case filed under FIR No. 114/2024, involving charges under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), Indian Arms Act, and other sections.

This case pertained to a shooting incident on October 24, 2024, targeting an outside labourer, Shubam Kumar from Bijnore, Uttar Pradesh, who suffered critical injuries.
Authorities have stated that further inquiries are underway to uncover additional details.
