NEW DELHI: An intense encounter unfolded in the Chattru forest area of Kishtwar district as security forces engaged with terrorists based on specific intelligence inputs. 

 

The operation, involving the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, commenced after reports indicated the presence of militants in the dense forest region on 09 April.โ€‹

 

 

โ€œContact was established late evening on the same day. The terrorists were effectively engaged and firefight ensued. One terrorist has thus far been neutralised,โ€ said 16 Corps, Indian Army in a X post. 

 

The Chattru forest, characterized by its challenging terrain, posed significant difficulties for the security personnel. Despite these challenges, the forces established contact with the terrorists, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. 

 

Reinforcements were promptly dispatched to the area to support the ongoing operation. 

 

Simultaneously, another encounter was reported in the Jopher locality of Ramnagar in Udhampur district. Security forces, acting on prior intelligence, initiated a combing operation in the area. Upon encountering the hiding terrorists, a gunfight ensued. 

 

Initial reports suggest that two to three terrorists are likely holed up in the vicinity. โ€‹

 

The twin operations in Kishtwar and Udhampur underscore the heightened vigilance and proactive measures undertaken by security forces to counter terrorist activities in the region. 

 

Both operations are ongoing, with security personnel committed to neutralizing the threats and ensuring the safety of the local populace.โ€‹
