Terrorist killed in an encounter at South Kashmir’s Pulwama

Terrorist identified as Kifayat Ayub of Pinjoora Shopian was killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of South Kashmir.

Srinagar: A terrorist identified as Kifayat Ayub of Pinjoora Shopian was killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of South Kashmir, officials said on Friday.

A senior police official told The New Indian that “A joint team of J&K Police (Pulwama Police) , Army (44 RR)  and CRPF (182 Bn) launched a cordon and search operation on receiving specific input about the presence of terrorists in the area. As the team closed in on them, the hiding terrorists fired at the forces, who retaliated, resulting in a gun battle.”

 “One pistol, two grenades, two magazines and five rounds were recovered from the operation site”, an official said.

He said that “Police records indicate that the terrorist killed was involved in several terror-related crimes, including in Case FIR No. 123/2021, FIR No. 294/2021, and Case FIR No. 180/2023 of PS Shopian”.

In a separate incident, police have arrested two terrorists in South Kashmir identified as Adil Hussain Bhat and Manzoor Ahmad Naikoo from Nagam, Kokernag. Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from them.

In North Kashmir’s Handwara, police said a module of ‘The Resistance Front’ of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was busted and two associates of terrorists were arrested.

“A module of LeT/TRF was busted and arms recovered from Tutigund forest on the disclosure of Parvaiz Ahmad Dar and Showkat Ahmad Shergujri, both residents of Tutigund Handwara,” the police said.

The police said more arrests and recoveries were expected in the case.

On 17 November, five terrorists of proscribed terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed in an encounter with security forces in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
